    PM Modi reaches J&K’s Rajouri to celebrate Diwali with Army jawans

    Modi directly flew to the Brigade Headquarters in the border district to interact with the troops deployed along the LoC, the officials said. 

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jammu-Kashmir on Sunday to celebrate Diwali with Army troops stationed along the Line of Control in Rajouri and Poonch districts.

    Modi directly flew to the Army Brigade Headquarters in the border district to interact with the troops deployed along the LoC, the officials said.  Read in Tamil

    This is the third time that the prime minister visited Jammu and Kashmir to celebrate Diwali with the troops in the border state since 2014. However, this is the first time after abrogating provisions of Section 370.

    “We have never thought of meeting the prime minister whose visit make our Diwali a memorable one,” one of the soldiers told reporters while leaving the venue after PM Modi departed.

    “Prime minister is very good and lauded our role in safeguarding the border of the country… He assured that his government is behind us and will do whatever possible for us in acknowledgement of our service to the nation,” he added.

    This is the third time that the prime minister visited Jammu and Kashmir to celebrate Diwali with the troops.

    In the last two months, the area witnessed intense mortar shelling and small arms fire by Pakistani troops who have been targeting the forward Indian positions and civilians without any provocation.
