    North Korea Confirms Successful Test of Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missile

    Pyongyang's most recent missile launch was confirmed by North Korean state media to have been a test of the DPRK's latest submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM).

    North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent his “warm congratulations” to researchers involved in the development and launch of the Pukguksong-3, which was “fired in vertical mode” on Wednesday, according to a Thursday report by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

    “The successful -type SLBM test-firing comes to be of great significance as it ushered in a new phase in containing the outside forces' threat to the DPRK and further bolstering its muscle for self-defense,” state news agency added.

    In recent months, South 's Ministry of National Defense has reported that North Korea had completed construction of a new submarine that exceeds Pyongyang's 2,500-ton Gorae-class sub and is capable of hauling at least three SLBMs.

    Russian scientists did not detect any seismic activity in the Sea of as a result of the launch, and according to KCNA, the test “had no adverse impact on the security of neighboring countries.”

    Nevertheless, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) Wednesday launch triggered a swift global response, with Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga claiming that fragments of a projectile from the launch landed in the country's exclusive economic zone.
