Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Monday said there was no threat of insurgency in Punjab but there was need to remain alert and both Centre and Punjab government were seized of the matter, latter especially dealing it with an iron hand.
“There is no threat for Punjab but it is better to remain alert than allow things to go out of control. People of Punjab themselves will not allow the violence to spread. They are the ones who actually quelled the insurgency and they will not allow this to spread,” said the Army Chief while interacting with newsmen at Mamun Military Station after inaugurating a two-day “Samman Samaroh: Year of Disabled Soldiers in Line of Duty”.
On “external linkages” to revive insurgency in Punjab and role of the Union government, Rawat said, “The Union government is taking full action against this. We are fully aware of what is happening. I think the Chief Minister of Punjab, particularly, is very concerned about this and hence he is taking a very direct action to ensure that violence does not spread in the state again.”
