J&K: Pakistan violates ceasefire, fires RPG in Poonch

A store shelter inside Poonch Brigade headquarters was damaged on Tuesday morning as Pakistani troops fired Rocket Propelled Grenades and small arms fire from across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir ‘s Poonch town.

In the evening, Pakistani troops fired mortar shelling in Jhalas area of Poonch. However, there were no injuries on the Indian side in both the incidents.

Giving details, an army spokesperson said that around 10.35 am Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing of RPGs and small arms. During ceasefire violation, ”one round landed on a barrel type store shelter in Poonch causing it to catch fire”, he said, adding that the “initial analysis indicates calibre of 105/106 mm Rcl. Further details are being ascertained”.

The explosion caused panic in Poonch town and administration ordered the closure of educational institutions falling in the border area in close proximity to the Poonch brigade headquarters. Senior police officials along with contingents of police also rushed to the spot as initially, people took the explosion as a terror attack in the area.
