During a 22 Wing North Bay, Ontario, town hall on May 25, 2018, Colonel Mark Roberts, 22 Wing commander, explained why he wanted to gather everyone from the wing into Club 100, at the wing's Ayr Mess.
It was for cake, he said.
In fact, the full reason for the town hall had occurred weeks earlier, during a North American Aerospace Defense Command honours and awards ceremony held at NORAD Headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At the spring NORAD Commander's Conference, Major-General Christian Drouin, commander of 1 Canadian Air Division , accepted the Partridge-Slemon Award on behalf of the members of 22 Wing/Canadian Forces Base North Bay, the home of the Canadian Air Defence Sector (CADS).
Later, in a surprise presentation on May 17, 2018, in Winnipeg, Colonel Roberts, Major Brenda Tinsley, 51 Aerospace Control & Warning (Operational Training) Squadron commanding officer, and Master Warrant Officer Cathryn Bertrand, 21 Aerospace Control & Warning Operations master warrant officer, were presented with the Partridge-Slemon Award by Major-General Drouin and Chief Warrant Officer Jacques Boucher, 1 Canadian Air Division (chief warrant officer.
