WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The use of private server and email account by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has delayed the probe into the 2012 attack on the US mission in Benghazi, Libya, Republicans on the US House Benghazi Committee said in the final report on Tuesday.

“The State Department and the Secretary’s email arrangement undoubtedly delayed access to information on what happened to four brave Americans in Benghazi and the government’s response before, during and after the attacks,” the report stated.

The 2012 terrorist attack in the Libyan port city of Benghazi killed US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.

The Republicans claimed that the Obama administration has failed to protect US diplomats on multiple levels.

Controversy over the US administration’s dismissal of the attack as an anti-American protest sparked by a social-media posting from the US Embassy in Egypt earlier in the day has marred Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.

Clinton is subject to a separate criminal investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) over whether her electronic communications arrangement exposed classified US government information.
